Anthony Bowden – "Palmetto" Cast Interview 8/25/07

Anthony plays "Tyler McKlane" on Palmetto

1) What was the attraction of doing this series?
Apart from realizing the unbelievable opportunity to work on this
series I recognized the passion that the producers and crew possessed
for Palmetto. I knew how special this series could be and was
impressed with the characters as well as the story line.

2) What makes PALMETTO different from any other teen drama you've seen?

The truth behind Palmetto is what separates it from all other teen
dramas. Palmetto involves real kids with real problems. The ability
for the audience to relate to the characters is what will separate
Palmetto from everything else.

3) What are the challenges of playing a character coming from a small
town?

Luckily, I too am from a relatively small town. I understand the way
in which a small town community operates. Interactions between
friends and families in a small town are different from those in a
large city. It is important to know this when developing a character
that grows up in such an environment.

4) Without giving too much away, can you talk about your character?
Tyler Mcklane is a seventeen year old growing up in Palmetto Florida.
Tyler is a well intentioned good hearted teenager. Unfortunately,
Tyler has not had an easy childhood. His family life is far from
ideal and this has caused Tyler to be somewhat unstable. He
desperately wants love in his life that is lacking in his family.
However, his rough upbringing has forced him to put up a tough outer
wall and he has trouble opening up to people. Underneath this wall
which Tyler has created to protect himself there is a soft side which
Tyler wishes he could operate from at all times. Tyler however has to
deal with many problems and complications in his life that prevents
this from happening.

5) How do you prepare for your scenes? What do you do to get "into
character?"

Each scene demands different preparation. Since many scenes are shot
out of order it is vital to understand where your character is at that
moment and where he is coming from. After doing this I break down the
script and take notes on how each line and action makes my character
feel. I analyze my moments and begin to imagine each scene. I
visualize the actions that I assign to the script and play each scene
out in my imagination. I make changes to actions, dialogue and tone
of voice so that the objective in each scene is portrayed correctly.

6) Without giving too much away, what has been your favorite scene to
shoot?

Thus far my favorite scene to shoot has been at the Maitland Art
Center. Aside from the beautiful scenery provided, it was the first
time that I was involved in a scene with a large amount of extras.
The combination of extras and the setting made me realize how
impressive the scene was.
