Rich
Dye – "Palmetto" Cast Interview 8/25/07
Rich
plays "Uncle Jayson McKlane" on Palmetto
1) What was the attraction of doing this series?
The original attraction was the opportunity to work with, in my opinion, a
fantastic production company and talented crew with a great script. After the
first shooting day, I realized how wonderful the young talent involved was,
and that was icing on the cake!
2) What makes PALMETTO different from any other teen drama you’ve seen?
I think the issues in the story lines are a lot more “real” than typical teen
drama, which will be easier for the audience to relate.
3) What are the challenges of playing a character coming from a small
town?
I have lived in small towns and large cities so I understand the differences,
so the biggest challenge is the fact I am a big city person at heart!
4) Without giving too much away, can you talk about your character?
My character is the Uncle to Tyler that is pretty close to the opposite of
his father. He tries to be very compassionate and understanding of Tyler and
his situation knowing that his relationship with his parents is not the best.
5) How do you prepare for your scenes? What do you do to get “into
character?”
I become the character drawing from life experience in most cases. One of the
reasons I love my character is the fact I have a nephew that did not have the
best relationship with his parents and a very rough upbringing and actually
lived with me for some time. I try to relate to some situation that my real
life nephew and I have actually gone through or at least how I would relate
to him in the same situation as Tyler my be in.
6) Without giving too much away, what has been your favorite scene
to shoot?
My favorite scene so far was a one on one with Tyler trying to explain why
I thought his father was the way he was, giving Tyler insight as to the way
his father had been raised.
7) Is there any advice, wisdom, or comments your character would like to give
the fans?
You can pick your friends, but not your family. Love all of them the best you
can.
