Tony
Riha – "Palmetto" Cast Interview 8/25/07
Tony
plays "Mitch Alderson" on Palmetto
1) What was the attraction of doing this series?
Being a fan of such shows as Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place
and Dawson’s Creek I thought that it would be a great opportunity to work on
that type of show. After submitting and being e-mailed an audition script from
Chris Morgan, I was extremely impressed.
2) What makes PALMETTO different from any other teen drama you’ve seen?
It’s more believable than most shows and focuses in on more real life problems
that teens and their parents deal with day to day.
3) What are the challenges of playing a character coming from a small
town?
After spending a couple of years in a small town in Georgia, this has not really
been a challenge. There are definitely different ways that people in larger
cities interact, but fortunately I have experienced both.
4) Without giving too much away, can you talk about your character?
Mitch is a real estate broker and after getting the opportunity to open up
a new branch to his firm he has to relocate his family from Fort Lauderdale
to Palmetto. He feels badly because his son has a lot of resentment towards
the move and the quick remarriage after his wife’s death. He had a very close
relationship with his son at one time, and is trying to reach him once again.
Mitch also has a lot of sarcasm in him and the viewers will see where Garret
gets it from.
5) How do you prepare for your scenes?
What do you do to get “into character?” I always try to put myself in the place
that I am supposed to be and try to make it as real to me as possible. I really
had to dig down deep and put myself in a sad place for the funeral scene.
6) Without giving too much away, what has been your favorite scene
to shoot?
I would have to say that my favorite scene was when my wife Sue and I had a
heated discussion with our son Garret as a result of his very poor judgment.
The scene had a lot of intensity to it which is the kind of acting that I love
and to be able to work off of my talented co-actors was a great pleasure.
7) Is there any advice, wisdom, or comments your character would like
to give the fans?
It is exciting that we already have a fan base and I would like to thank everyone
that has been supportive. I know that when the show airs, no one will be disappointed.
